From April 7th to 10th, 2025, our partner CARDIFF University took part in ECM-2025 in Edinburgh, Scotland (UK). Representing the team of CEAT (Centre of Excellence on Ammonia Technologies), Dr. Aravind Balakrishnan and Mr. Ziyu Wang showcased their ongoing work on CAIPIRINH3A project through two distinctive posters.
“Numerical investigation on the combustion characteristics of premixed NH₃-air flames using gliding arc plasma”
“Novel strategy for combustion enhancement of NH₃-air mixture using gliding arc plasma”
The first study demonstrated the use of gliding arc plasma (GAP) in a novel double swirl combustor to enhance flame stability and significantly reduce NOₓ emissions in partially premixed NH₃-air flames. The second presented the first validated numerical model integrating ZDPlasKin and Chemkin to accurately predict NO emissions from GAP-assisted NH₃-air combustion, offering deep insights into radical formation and NO reduction mechanisms. These contributions mark important advancements in sustainable combustion technologies.
Stay tuned — more sparks from CAIPIRINH3A are on the way!
